Annual Meeting of the GJS 2026 & 50-year anniversary
Annual Meeting of the GJS, September 11–13, 2026, at the AZK in Königswinter.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the GJS's work in development education, we draw our attention to Jamaica and ask: How has this island nation evolved amidst the complex challenges posed by post-colonial structures? On one hand, Jamaica has achieved global renown in culture, music, and sports. On the other, the island nation faces structural poverty, high crime rates, and increasingly frequent climate-related disasters. At this year’s conference, the GJS reflects on the work accomplished over the past five decades while also focusing on the current socio-political and climate-related challenges facing Jamaica. 'Paradise in Transition'
'Paradise in Transition - Jamaica's Balance Between Progress and Joy of Life' is a film project by DHBW Stuttgart. Produced as part of a Bachelor's project in the Media, Sales and Communication (MVK) program, the film explores Jamaica in a very personal and respectful way. It is going to be part of the GJS's annual meeting 2026. It focuses on the people, culture, social issues, and the country's creativity and resilience. Watch the trailer on Vimeo. The GJS is helping affected areas in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa has devastated large parts of Jamaica and other Caribbean islands. We, as the German-Jamaican Society, want to use donated funds to help alleviate the worst suffering in the affected areas of Jamaica. A member of our board, Karl-Olaf Kaiser, is on the ground coordinating the relief efforts.

Exhibition *BIG TINGS* is dedicated to Stuttgart’s Reggae, Dancehall, and Soundsystem Culture
Music can connect people, shape identities, and tell stories. With the exhibition *BIG TINGS*, the StadtPalais – Museum for Stuttgart is dedicating a comprehensive exhibition to Stuttgart’s reggae, dancehall, and soundsystem culture for the first time. Running from July 18, 2026, to October 11, 2026, the exhibition shows how Jamaican sounds gave rise to a vibrant movement that extends far beyond the music itself and has left a lasting mark on the state capital’s cultural landscape. Further information can be found here.
