Exhibition "Jamaican Art" from June 28th to August 24th 2025 at the Museum im Kloster in Bersenbrück

The exhibition presented Jamaican art by Jamaican artists. The vibrant island of Jamaica is home to many talented artists in the visual, sculptural, and digital arts. Jamaica's distinctive art has evolved from its humble beginnings in the 1930s, through the 1960s as a young sovereign nation in August 1962, to our digital and contemporary modern era. All these eras and their distinctive artistic expressions are represented in this unique exhibition.

"We likkle but TALLAWAH" is often quoted in Jamaica and by Jamaicans in the diaspora. Therefore, the "likkle" Museum in the monastery developed this concept and is proud to have presented a broad spectrum, from established Jamaican artists to contemporary young rebels, with very limited resources – to present "it TALLAWAH" in Germany. In doing so, it also crossed boundaries to Jamaican music. The exemplary artworks and works highlight many different genres of Jamaican visual art: classical painting, intuitive art, sculptures, graphic design, pottery, photography, and digital art. The exhibition also invited visitors on a journey into the Jamaican art scene in Kingston and far beyond.
