Aid Projects

Thanks to many donors and friends of our society, we have been able to carry out or support the following projects so far.

  • € 1,500 donation to the Trenchtown Reading Center for the procurement of books (2008)
  • € 3,500 donation to the Beecher Town All Age School for the construction of another classroom (2008)
  • 1.200 € donation to the Beecher Town All Age School for the procurement of a covered path between the school and the common room (2004)
  • 800 € donation to the Beecher Town All Age School for the acquisition of a printer (2003)
  • Cooperation with the Society for Caribbean Research on the occasion of the international conference "Change in Caribbean Societies:" Moments and Momentum "Opening lecture by Prof. Rex Nettleford (1996)
  • Organization and assumption of the costs for the transport of two motor vehicle engines to the Comprehensive High School in Spanish Town. Donor of the engines: Gewerbeschule Breisach (1995).
  • Donation to the "Wortley Home Kingston" (1995).
  • Donation of a television and a video recorder to the "St. Margret Basic School" in May Pen (1994).
  • Support for the series of lectures on Jamaica and the subsequent exhibition Rastafarian art in Jamaica at the University of Mainz under the direction of Dr. Bender, Institute for Ethnology and African Studies (1993).
  • Support of the "Children Aid Contribution" in Green Island / Westmoreland (1994).
  • Personal and legal support for five Jamaican artisans on the occasion of their presentation at the Frankfurt Autumn Fair (1992).
  • Members of the DJG supported the "DGB World Youth Meeting" in Kingston (1991) through personal commitment.
  • Personal support for photographer Roland Jung for the photo book project about "Jamaica" in German (1991).
  • Support for the orphans of a German-Jamaican couple (1991).
  • Various donations to different institutions, e.g .: Aboukir, Lucea, Kingston Down Town etc.
  • Major relief efforts on the occasion of Hurricane Gilbert (1988). Two 20 ft containers of relief supplies and over DM 90,000 in donations were collected.
  • Ongoing transmission of donations in kind to the SOS Children's Village via member and SOS Children's Village director Ms. Ilse Kessler.
